LSU continued to add arms to its pitching staff, landing Mount St. Mary’s freshman pitcher Deven Sheerin, he announced on Twitter.

“First off I would like to thank God for putting me in the position to play my favorite game at the highest level possible,” Sheerin wrote. “I would also like to thank my family, friends and coaches that have helped me along the way. With this being said I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to play baseball at Louisiana State University.”

That makes four transfers headed to Baton Rouge. Wofford transfer Zac Cowan, USF pitcher Chandler Dorsey and Indiana State transfer catcher and infielder Luis Hernandez are the other transfers so far.

After this season, Sheerin was named a Second Team Freshman All-American from Perfect Game and a NCAA Division I East All-Region Second Team from ABCA/Rawlings.

Sheerin excelled in his first collegiate season. He appeared in 18 games for the Mountaineers, the Reading, Pennsylvania native set the team record for strikeouts in a season by fanning 109 opponents. He also set records for opponents’ batting average (.197) and strikeouts per nine (14.01). He was credited with six victories for the team, including in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship May 22 against Canisius.

At the conclusion of the season, Sheerin was awarded the MAAC Rookie of the Year honor along with First Team All-MAAC accolades.

LSU head coach Jay Johnson is navigating players making decisions on their futures as well. Hernandez gives the Tigers a strong option at multiple spots.

“Obviously, there are some situations where guys are in between pro baseball and coming back,” Johnson said this week. “All of those guys will be welcomed back and have a place on our roster. Even with that, we have a lot of work to do to have the team we want to have. It will have a lot of high impact. I’m not so worried about the numbers. That’s where my head is at in terms of building the roster moving forward and at a place like LSU you can do that. It’s really fluid right now.”
