Jigawa govt unveils 2024-2030 Agriculture policy document

The Jigawa State Government has unveiled the 2024–2030 Agriculture Policy Document, aiming to transform the state’s agricultural sector and enhance food security.

Governor Namadi emphasized that the new policy, part of the administration’s 12-point agenda, serves as a strategic roadmap to turn Jigawa into a hub of innovation, productivity, and shared prosperity.

He highlighted the critical need for expanded irrigation infrastructure and the introduction of mechanization to achieve this transformation.

“We felt there was a need to develop the agriculture policy to reflect the thinking we have about turning around the agricultural sector,” Governor Namadi explained.

He also extended his gratitude to the FCDO for their ongoing support in various developmental areas in Jigawa State.

Speaking at the event, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr Saifullahi Umar, said the review aligns with the administration’s goals for agricultural development, aiming to create jobs and employment for the state’s predominantly young population.

Dr Umar stressed Jigawa’s potential, with its agrarian economy and a population of nearly 8 million, including over 3 million youths.

He noted that the state government envisions agriculture as a key driver for economic transformation, internal revenue generation, and social development.

Dr Saifullah said the ultimate goal is to position Jigawa as a hub for agro-industrial activities in Nigeria and West Africa.”
