Heavy rains trigger major landslides on National Highway, traffic paralyzed for hours

Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 15 (ANI): Continuous heavy rainfall since morning led to a significant landslide at Mile 35 of the National Highway (NH) in the Mungiakami area of Teliamura Subdivision in Tripura. As a result, from around 11:30 am, countless vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway.

Despite the prolonged traffic halt due to the landslide, there was a notable absence of officials from the Public Works Department and the NH Division, sparking widespread discontent among the public.

Subsequently, personnel from the Mungiakami police station and the Forest Department arrived at the scene. Shortly after, a bulldozer was deployed to clear the debris, and traffic flow was restored to normalcy approximately two to two and a half hours later.

In addition to the incident at Mile 35, a similar landslide occurred at Mile 44 of the National Highway, severely disrupting daily life and causing further traffic problems. The heavy rainfall-induced landslides on such a critical highway resulted in significant inconvenience and hardship for the general public, underscoring the need for more efficient response mechanisms during such natural calamities.
