Right-hander Trey Pooser will start Game One of the Men’s College World Series for Kentucky on Saturday against NC State.
Pooser pitched seven innings in Kentucky’s 10-0 Super Regional victory over Oregon State last weekend, allowing just one hit and no earned runs.
Since his move to the Friday night starter, Pooser has blossomed into Kentucky’s “ace.” The right-hander boasts a 3.57 ERA in 63 innings pitched as a starter. Although he has been Kentucky’s most reliable starter over the last month, he said he doesn’t see himself as an ace.
“I wouldn’t really say that I felt that I was an ace,” Pooser said last Saturday night. “I just felt like I was just another good addition to the starting rotation.”
Although many pitchers lose velocity as the season gets deeper and deeper, Pooser seems to be gaining velocity.
“Coach Jones our weight trainer, he gets us right in the weight room and then just staying on the same program and getting more running and lifting in and just making sure my arm is right,” Pooser said. “The training room staff, also, they help as well.”
Kentucky’s first ever game in the Men’s College World Series will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon.
