'Very much so': Roy Keane claims Liverpool have a player who's about to get 'found out' during Euro 2024

Liverpool players have not enjoyed their time at Euro 2024 so far.

The Reds have 10 members of the squad heading to Germany to compete in the tournament over the next month.

Andy Robertson kicked things off on Friday, but he and his Scotland team were humiliated 5-1 by the hosts.

Saturday brought Hungary’s game against Switzerland and Dominik Szoboszlai becoming the youngest captain in European Championship history.

Unfortunately for Szoboszlai he and his team only fared marginally better than Robertson. The Hungarians went down 3-1 against the Swiss.

Roy Keane expects Trent Alexander-Arnold flop

Szoboszlai and Robertson will indeed face each other later on in the tournament. Hungary and Scotland do battle in Stuttgart on June 23rd.

In the meantime, their Liverpool teammates will be hoping for better fortune as they kick-off their own campaigns. The Reds Dutch contingent are in action on Sunday, as the Netherlands face Poland.

Then, later on the same day, England get underway with a match against Serbia. It’s a big occasion for the Three Lions who are the early favourites to win lift the trophy.

It will also be a big day for Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool academy graduate is set to start in midfield against Serbia.

In the build-up to Trent starting, there has been a lot of debate around the virtues of playing him in midfield. Former England manager Sam Allardyce told people to ‘keep their mouths shut‘ and let the Liverpool man play, but others haven’t been so supportive.

One who seems intent on pushing the narrative that Alexander-Arnold is incapable of playing in the middle of the pitch is former Man United captain Roy Keane.

Speaking on ITV before Spain’s win over Croatia on Saturday, Keane claimed that he expected Trent to get ‘ripped to shreds’ if he plays against anyone of note.

“I think they’ll be fine in the groups. Trent will be fine in his position in those matches but against the real top teams I think he’ll be found out, very much so,” says the pundit. “In fact I think he’ll be ripped to shreds if he plays against one of the better teams in centre-midfield. I don’t think he’ll be up to it.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold out to prove a point

Someone had better show this tape to Alexander-Arnold before he steps out onto the pitch against Serbia.

The right-back is a feisty character who has had to deal with plenty of criticism during his career. He almost always bounces back.

In the build-up to this tournament, the neigh sayers on Alexander-Arnold have been louder than ever.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara claimed that Southgate playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield was ‘stupid,’ while Phil Jagielka admitted that he also wasn’t in favour of the move.

For Trent, he just needs to stay focused and do what he always does. The 25-year-old is a game-changer capable of winning matches on his own.

When he runs the game against a France or a Portugal, Keane will be forced to eat his words.
