2025 RB John Forster commits to Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Class of 2025 running back John Forster was one of the most talked-about players at the Elite Showcase camp on Sunday.

Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional three-star running back John Forster has committed to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, he announced Saturday afternoon.

Forster took his official visit to Rutgers the weekend of May 31. He chose the Knights despite taking multiple unofficial visits to Penn State earlier this spring.

Forster is the nation’s No. 433 overall prospect, No. 34 running back and No. 14 recruit from New Jersey in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Rutgers has made a couple of splashes on the recruiting trail in the last week. On Sunday, the Scarlet Knights added Toms River (N.J.) Toms River North four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, the No. 316 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking.

The addition of Matthews came two days after Upper Marlboro (Md.) St. John’s four-star safety Tariq Hayer announced his commitment to the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers was first to offer the 6-foot-5, 295-pounder.

“The connection me and coach Schiano have is different,” Matthews told On3. “He is a great guy with the same principles and morals that my family has. He is going to train me to be the best man I can be off the field and push me to be the best football player I can be on the field.

“As soon as coach Schiano got there, he took over my recruitment and made me a priority. He got on me my sophomore year, then really came hard my junior year and how we built that relationship over time really made an impact on my decision.

“Coach Schiano is a father figure to me. He has taken me under his wing. He wanted me at Rutgers. We can talk about anything. I look up to him like I do my dad, I trust that he cares about me and I know I am going to play for a great man.”
