When Kenny Brooks came to Kentucky, you knew there would be a good chance that he’d bring over the talent he had assembled in Blacksburg. So, when he flipped the commitment of Lexi Blue, it wasn’t a huge surprise, but it was still a big deal.
She comes to Kentucky as the No. 40 overall prospect in the country as ranked by ESPN. The ‘Cats haven’t received a commitment from a player ranked that high since former five-star Treasure Hunt chose UK in 2020 (No. 29). Maddie Scherr was in the same class at No. 19, but she spent her first two years of college ball at Oregon. All of this is to say that Blue is an incredible talent, which takes us to our main point of discussion.
If Lexi Blue isn’t the perfect player to be a Kentucky Wildcat, then no one is.
We’ll start with the obvious part — the low-hanging fruit, which would be her name. Her last name is “Blue” for crying out loud. The shortened version of her first name, Lexi, is just destined to be used in some sort of a “LEXI-ngton” NIL package. Just off of name alone, Blue is the perfect fit to be a ‘Cat, but there’s more.
She’ll come in and immediately compete for minutes given how talented she is. However, as a freshman, Blue will still need to learn the ropes a bit. Jordan Obi seems like a good role model for what Blue can be in the next few years — a dynamic offensive weapon with a solid all-around game. Maybe in her lone season in Lexington, Obi can help guide Blue into being the star she is set to be.
So, given the name, the talent, and her supporting cast, Lexi Blue is primed for a very promising future at Kentucky. Go big, Blue.
