Today in the Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway, Sheldon Creed earned another top-5 finish, but he wanted a lot more than that. The NASCAR driver felt like his teammate, John Hunter Nemechek, cost him the win.
Now, we have heard this narrative with Sheldon Creed before. He got into it with his old RCR teammate at the end of last season, Austin Hill. This does not seem as serious, to tell you the truth. But it is something to keep in mind.
After the race, Creed placed blame on Nemechek. But he knows that Nemechek will probably blame him. One of those racing things..
“Got a really good slide draft and went to go slide him into [Turn] 3,” Sheldon Creed said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “Yeah I just gave him the option, what we call it, and he knew I was going to throttle up either way. I just figured he would cross me, or… he don’t run for points so maybe give it to me. But yeah he throttled up outside of me kind of cost both of us there, I don’t know. I’m going to blame him, he’s going to blame me, right?
“So, yeah that kind of decided the end of it for us. I think he was the last caution, right? … If I clear him , I was better than the 98 after five laps. So, I think I run em down. I think I could have kept the 1 [Sam Mayer] behind me. It just took me too long to get going. Just way too loose for 10 or so laps. I think you seen a lot of us like that but it just made it really hard to fire off for me.”

Sheldon Creed wasn’t the only driver who was upset on Saturday. Riley Herbst had sour grapes as well. Herbst battled late for the win with Sam Mayer. After Nemechek brought out the caution flag, Creed lined up P3 behind Mayer and Herbst.
On the launch, it was solid. Then Creed got loose and lost positions. He was unable to keep pace with the leaders.
Mayer and Herbst pulled away with Mayer making the most distance on the field. For the second time this season, Mayer ended up in Victory Lane. The checkered flag still evades Sheldon Creed for the moment.
