The biggest name in the 2024 NBA Draft may be someone projected to go in the second round. USC‘s Bronny James has been linked to multiple teams throughout the process, working out with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. However, per a report, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in James as well.

“The Mavericks would have interest in selecting Bronny James with the 58th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, league sources say,” Stein said. “But the Mavericks also realize it’s extremely unlikely that James will still be available for selection. All current indications suggest that LeBron James’ 19-year-old son will be selected earlier in the second round before Dallas makes the last pick in the draft.”

Dallas still has their season going on, getting a Game 4 win against the Boston Celtics to keep the NBA Finals alive. One more loss and the Mavericks will move into the offseason, hoping to make additions and barring a miracle comeback, add pieces to bring the franchise their first championship since 2011.

If James were to be selected by Dallas in the second round, it would be at No. 58 overall — the last pick in the draft. It’s the one selection the Mavs have this year as the New York Knicks have their first-rounder thanks to a trade involving Kristaps Porzingis in 2019.

The second round of the NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on June 27, while the first 30 picks will be announced the day before.

James played high school basketball at Sierra Canyon High School in California, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 25 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

However, during a summer workout ahead of the 2023-24 season, James went into cardiac arrest and missed a chunk of the year. He wound up averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 25 games played.

Beyond acquiring James as a prospect, part of the intrigue taking him has to be the possibility of his father, LeBron James, coming to play. LeBron James has not been shy to say he would like to play with Kyrie Irving once again, while he is also a fan of Luka Doncic.

On3’s James Fletcher did not list James in his 2024 NBA Mock Draft 4.0, being left off completely.
