During a recent interview on ESPN College Football, Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby discussed the state of this program as they head into the summer and a few of their expectations for his first year leading the Bulldogs.

One of the trickier questions the Bulldogs headman had to answer was whether he had brought any stability to the program and, if so, what channels he had utilized to do so.

“Hopefully, we’ve done a really good job of putting together a roster,” Lebby said. “I think that’s the first thing we had to get done; we had to make sure that the team that we’re going to feel this fall is a team that’s got good players. That was something that was huge for us. We needed the top part of our roster to be improved. But man, we needed the middle part of our roster to be much improved. We were able to get some of those pieces in place; a bunch in the first portal session, and then was able to adjust and find ways to add pieces in the second cycle.”

“At the end of the day, it’s gonna be all about those guys that are playing every single Saturday. This is a player’s game; we need the right pieces in place to be able to go win, have success, and be able to sustain (and) create stability for State.”

Lebby has had plenty of coaching opportunities; however, this is his first time being a head coach. And his first time doing so is in arguably the toughest conference in all of college football. So, in order to make sure his head coaching career gets off to a solid start, the long-time offensive guru has focused the majority of his attention on team building.

Lebby and his coaching staff have worked diligently to acquire some top talent out of the transfer portal, including former Baylor Bears quarterback Blake Shapen. Should Shapen and the rest of the talent that Mississippi State has acquired pan out for them in Lebby’s first year running the show, fans should expect the Bulldogs to become a picture and not only the SEC but possibly the College Football Playoff picture.
