Left-Wing Mag Seeks To Sell Notion That Trump Is In Trouble With Voters In Florida

Newsweek on Sunday promoted the narrative that former President Donald Trump is “at risk” of losing Florida in November, even as it admitted deep in its piece that Trump is burying his opponent, according to other polls.

Newsweek hyped a new poll by Florida Atlantic University that showed Trump’s “lead over President Joe Biden in Florida is narrow, and the Republican could be at risk of losing the Sunshine State.”

Newsweek noted that the FAU poll conducted last week found that Trump led Biden 46% to 42% in a head-to-head matchup. That same poll in April had revealed Trump was ahead 50-42.

Newsweek noted that Dukhong Kim, an associate professor of political science at FAU, said the latest results suggest that “Biden has made modest gains and kept the race competitive in the nation's largest swing state."

That is a “swing state,” by the way, that has nearly 1 million more registered Republicans than Democrats - a shift of more than 1.2 million voters away from the Democrats since GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis was elected in 2018.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Newsweek: "President Trump continues to dominate Crooked Joe Biden both nationally and in battleground states."

Down low in its piece, however, Newsweek acknowledged that Trump’s lead grew when independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy was factored in. When including Kennedy, Trump’s lead over Biden grew to six points.

A recent Fox News poll, taken immediately after Trump’s conviction in New York City last month, found that Trump led Biden by four in Florida, but that increased to seven with Kennedy in the mix.

Still further down, Newsweek admitted, “Polls still suggest that Trump enjoys a significant lead over Biden in Florida.”

One of those surveys, taken at the same time as FAU’s, was a Tyson Group poll that had Trump up 46-36.

Meanwhile, Newsweek also admitted at the end of its piece that FiveThirtyEight.com's tracking of the average of all the Florida polls revealed that Trump holds a “significant” lead over Biden. Trump led the Democrat 45.3% to 36.6%.
