Alex Golesh and the USF Bulls hosted 10 official visitors from June 14-16, which included three players already committed to the program. And as of Saturday afternoon, USF gained two new verbal pledges.
Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County interior offensive lineman Khalil Collins and Riverview (Fla.) Sumner safety Jeremiah Jones announced their decisions to commit to the Bulls.
USF is now at 10 commitments. Ocilla (Ga.) Irwin County running back Shane Marshall announced Sunday that he flipped his pledge from the Bulls to the Minnesota Gophers. He had been committed to Golesh’s squad for a couple months.
Both Collins and Jones were in Tampa for their USF official visits over the weekend.
Collins details USF commitment
Matters came together pretty quickly between the Bulls and Collins, who stands at 6-3, 305 pounds. He earned his offer from the staff May 15, was on campus nine days later and returned for his official visit June 14-16. And late on June 15, Collins posted on Instagram that he committed to the Bulls.
“The reason I decided to commit to USF was because of the fact there’s a lot of opportunity there, great coaches and players, great brotherhood and the best academics you could ever dream of,” Collins told On3. “USF is becoming something great, and it will only build and become better each and every year.”
Collins, who projects as an interior offensive lineman for the Bulls, had an incredible experience over the weekend for his official visit.
“The highlight of the trip was getting to interact with the players and see how they go about things, as well as them having such a great brotherhood,” Collins added. “You’ll be around elite guys every single day.
“The coaches were great. I spent the most time with Coach [Tyler] Hudanick, Coach Mirko [Jurkovic] and Coach [De’Vonte] Danzey. They’re all elite type of guys and they were great players in high school, college and even the pros. They’re the type of people you’d want to be coached by.
“The facilities, the campus and everything was just outstanding. They’ll be building a new stadium, and it’s going to be a great addition to the program. It’s all that you can ask for in a school.”
Troy, Georgia Southern, The Citadel, Tulane, Arkansas State and Dartmouth were among his other scholarship offers.
Jones jumps on USF offer
While things moved quickly between Collins and the Bulls, it was even more the case in Jones’ commitment.
Jones, who stands at 6-1, 185 pounds, worked out for the USF staff May 30, and safeties coach James Rowe and Co. liked what they saw. The staff invited him for an official visit over the weekend and offered him a scholarship during it.
Jones committed to the Bulls on the spot.
“The reason why I decided to commit to USF is because I would be a good fit in their defense,” he told On3. “And this school treats you like family. As soon as I step foot on campus, I get a good feeling. Everything about this school is different — the players treat you like bothers, the coaches treat you good. This is an elite spot to play at; I feel like they have the best staff in college football.”
Jones had a blast during his official visit, which included beating Rowe in bowling. He loves hanging out with his future coaches and spent a lot of time with current defensive back Jaelen Stokes, too.
“The coaches are good people,” Jones added. “They teach you not just about football; you learn a lot about becoming a man.”
Jones picked USF over offers from Marshall and Tennessee Tech.
