Erik ten Hag has revealed that he was informed during a holiday in Spain that he will remain Manchester United manager.

"The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza. They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me," Ten Hag told Dutch broadcasters NOS on Sunday.

Ten Hag's future was unclear after the club came eighth in the league, the worst finish since 1990, while winning the FA Cup which allows them to play in Europe next season.

"It was a stirring season. Never a dull moment," said Ten Hag, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in 2022 on a contract until 2025, with an option for another year.

The Dutchman said that the leadership around new owner Jim Ratcliffe had also talked with other managers, with reports naming former Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel and England manager Gareth Southgate.

"They indeed told me they have spoken to other managers," Ten Hag said. "In the Netherlands, that is not even allowed," he added, but that the Premier League has different rules.

Ten Hag had always said he wanted to continue despite all the doubts and the public debate, and that this was now happening.

"We have had good talks with each other, various issues have been discussed. The conclusion is that we will continue with each other and they will extend my contract. We still have to agree on that," he said.
