When Ohio State called in May, Isaiah West answered.

At the time, he was committed to Kentucky, but when he saw Carlos Locklyn‘s number pop up, he knew there could be big news coming. Locklyn offered the running back out of Philadelphia St. Joseph’s Prep, he visited Columbus for the first time not long afterward and he left that visit a Buckeye.

“It was a no-brainer for me,” West told On3. “I got there on the visit, I loved the vibe and I saw a true brotherhood. We hung out, I spent time with the coaches and at dinner that night, I told them I was ready to commit. It is a pretty easy decision.”

The people at Ohio State is what makes it the right fit for West.

“It starts at the top with Coach Ryan Day. He is a natural leader and a great person. He was one of the only coaches to sit me down and talk directly to me and that meant a lot. Coach Day talked to me about the people that come in there are great players and they have a lot of talent, but it is about developing that talent at Ohio State. I just loved his message and how direct he was.

… Coach Carlos Locklynn is my guy too. Like coach Day, he is so genuine. He sends me motivational texts every morning and we just have a real relationship. Coach Locklynn was recruiting me at Oregon, so I have known him for a while, but our relationship has grown a lot. I am excited to play for him. He has a big personality and is so easy to talk to.”

Kentucky, Nebraska, North Carolina, Wisconsin and a few others were on his list, but West wants to be a Buckeye. He is ready to compete in Columbus and see if he can become another great running back to come out of the program.

“I knew about Ohio State as a kid and they have a lot of history at running back. Archie Griffin, Eddie George, Ezekiel Elliott, JK Dobbins and some others are great that have broken some records.

“It is a blessing that I get to go to place like Ohio State. I have always wanted to be a big fish in a big pond and play against the best. Ohio State gives me that opportunity.”
