Dale Earnhardt Jr. has some interesting things to say about a ranking from Beer Advocate. On theDale Jr. Download podcast, the two-time Daytona 500 winner reacted to his favorite beer, the Budweiser Select 55, being ranked the worst in the world by on Beer Advocate’s worst beers ranking.
“That’s amazing,” Earnhardt said. “I’ve worked for Budweiser for almost 10 years. When you have that kind of relationship with Budweiser, they put me on this deal where I still get beer. The beer truck comes by every so often, once a month or whatever, and drops off a few cases. When I became a dad and I got a little bit older, I still love to drink beer …But I didn’t always want to be intoxicated, not all the time.”
Earnhardt went on to talk about the amount of calories certain beers have since he’s been counting calories on and off for all of his life. “Miller has the 64, and Bud has the 55,” Earnhardt explained. “Outside of that, the next sort of category in terms of calories is going to be your Bud Lights, Coors Lites, Miller Light, Corona Light. All of those are going to be in 90 some calories. I’m thinking, man I can two 55s to one Bud Light.”

Earnhardt continued: “They have half of the alcohol, they’re 2.4 I think. I’ll get up in the morning when I’m on vacation, I’ll have a beer at 10:00 in the morning. Ain’t nobody gonna tell me what time I can drink. I’ll drink what I want. I’m going to drink some days during the summer or whenever, I’m going to drink all day. You can drink those 55s from the time you get up to the time you go to bed. They have half the alcohol and half the calories and still be functional in the back half of the day.
While Earnhardt loves drinking the Bud Select 55s, he will drink a regular beer occasionally. “If I fell like I need to bump it up a notch,” Earnhardt stated. One of the beers that I’ve been enjoying is Natural Light. I’ve been drinking a lot of those, so I’ll slide a Natural Light in there. But I get a lot of s*** for drinking 55s from my friends. Some of my friends tell me that I shouldn’t even talk about it, but I don’t have no shame.
Beer Advocate ranks Bud Select 55 as the worst beer followed by Natural Light, Sharp’s, Keystone Light and Beer 30 Light. The best beers in the world, according to Beer Advocate, are (1) Kentucky Bunch Brand Stout, (2) Vanilla Bean Assassin, (3) O.W.K., (4) Marshmallow Handjee and (5) Abraxas – Barrel-Aged.
