Kentucky’s Keaton Daniel, Kris Grimes win USTFCCCA Regional Awards

Kentucky Track & Field earned some hardware after the conclusion of the 2024 outdoor season. Assistant coach Kris Grimes and senior Keaton Daniel both earned Southeast Region awards by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday.

Daniel earned the Southeast Region’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and Grimes was named the Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Southeast Region includes 35 schools in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kentucky. Because of their honors at the regional level, they will be in a national ballot that includes the winners from every region and voted on by the USTFCCCA.

This award is Daniel’s second regional honor by the USTFCCCA, as he won the same one after this past indoor season. He won the pole vault event at the 2024 NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a 18’7.25″/5.67 meters clearance and took home his sixth straight gold medal at the SEC Outdoor Championships. He became the program’s first-ever indoor and outdoor pole vault national champion in the same calendar year.

Grimes completed his sixth year as Kentucky’s Assistant coach, where he pushed Daniel to a sixth SEC gold medal and first NCAA Outdoor Championships title. Grimes took home this same award after this past indoor season, adding his fourth USTFCCCA Assistant Coach of the Year award to his belt.
