The Hong Kong police are investigating the death of an officer, who was believed to have taken his own life using his service pistol at a marine division base on Sunday, the force have said.

On Sunday at around 3.20 pm, police found a 51-year-old officer injured inside a changing room at the Marine Harbour Division Base in Sai Wan Ho, a spokesperson for the police said.
The officer had a gunshot wound to his head and was certified dead at the scene, the spokesperson said.
“A service pistol was found next to the deceased,” the spokesperson added. “Upon initial investigation, it is believed that he committed suicide with his service revolver.”

The officer was a Police Constable who was attached to the Inshore Patrol Sub-Unit of the marine division, the spokesperson said, adding that the case was being investigated by the Regional Crime Unit of the Marine.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
The force expressed sorrow and regret over the death of the officer and said it would offer timely assistance to his family members.
