Kyle Larson is still processing how his accident with Denny Hamlin and Daniel Suárez happened at Iowa Speedway on Sunday. Per Kelly Crandall of Racer, Larson said he hasn’t seen a replay to “fully understand” the wreck but “laments maybe he shouldn’t have gone three wide.” Larson added that he let the race slip away because he believed he “had the best car.”

“I haven’t seen a replay yet,” Larson said, per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. “I guess I could have just not gone to the middle and been more patient known how fast my car was and knowning who I was around. I wanted to get as many cars as I could in the beginning of that little run and probably ended up bitting me.”

Larson earned a P35 finish due to the wreck with Hamlin and Suárez and missed out on winning his second consecutive race. He has done enough to reach the playoffs, but keeping the momentum going is key for him as that was a big reason he won the Cup Series in 2021.

Before the Iowa race, Larson spoke to Dale Earnhardt Jr. about potential concerns at Iowa Speedway. “You’re going to have to be on the new pavement,” Larson said on the Dale Jr. Download podcast. “When we tested there, it was so slick. It took probably four hours for us to make comfortable laps. But then once the grip came in, it was normal. …But with only three cars there, there was lots of marbles just outside the groove, so if you missed it by an inch you would lose a second on your lap time.

“I’m curious to see if it’ll be like that still if we’ll have a bunch of marbles just outside the groove. I think if you do, I think that lends itself to mistakes and then you hopefully that will help with passing. I’m trying to be positive as well, but we’ll see. I think it’s got progressive baking too, so that should help. But I don’t really know until I get there.”

Kyle Larson ready to face Supercars drivers

Larson is one of the best drivers in the world and loves tackling new challenges. Last week, Larson spoke to reporters about taking on Supercars drivers like Shane van Gisbergen.

“Yeah I don’t know why I think it’s um, I think as competitors we all want to compete with the best,” Larson said. “So I really look forward to the opportunity to race against those guys that have been able to come over. Especially with Shane and how he smoked us at Chicago last year. I get excited now when you have other guys come in and get to race with us and we can kind of not only see how we compare against them but it’s an opportunity for us to all get better and look at different areas of how we can improve out skillset.”
