‘Oh no’: Gary Neville tears into £25m Arsenal player at Euro 2024

Arsenal have a number of their players at UEFA Euro 2024, and quite a few of them have already been in action in Germany.

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka played for England against Serbia on Sunday, while Jorginho turned out for Italy on Saturday.

Jakub Kiwior played for Poland on Sunday, and Kai Havertz starred for Germany against Scotland last Friday evening.

Another Arsenal player who has been in action at UEFA Euro 2024 already is Kieran Tierney.

Tierney, who spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad, played for Scotland against Germany.

The left-back was part of a team that were hammered 5-1 by home nation Germany.

The £25 million Arsenal player was deployed as the left centre-back and was taken off after 77 minutes.

Tierney, rated highly by Barry Ferguson, tried to build up attacks from the back, but Germany were far too superior and made life tough for the former Celtic star.

Gary Neville has criticised Scotland for being too emotional against Germany and has noted what Tierney did in the opening minutes.

Gary Neville disappointed with Arsenal and Scotland defender Kieran Tierney

The former Manchester United right-back has criticised the Arsenal defender for celebrating a goal kick.

Neville said on ITV 1 (7:27 pm, June 16, 2024): “They were getting caught up in the first five minutes.

“What I thought was a significant moment in the first couple of minutes in the game was when one of their experienced players, Kieran Tierney, playing for Arsenal Football Club, he celebrated winning a goal kick like it was almost the last minute of the game.

“I just thought, ‘Oh no. This is a marathon, this match. You have such a long way to go, and this isn’t a moment to try and get carried away’.

“I don’t think that would have helped the more sort of junior players in that squad to settle down.”

Kieran Tierney has to step up

Tierney is a good defender, but injury issues and competition for places mean that his future at Arsenal is uncertain.

There is speculation that Arsenal are ready to cash in on the 27-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Real Sociedad are reportedly not keen on bringing Tierney back for next season.

If the left-back wants to attract the interest of top clubs, then he has to do well for Scotland at UEFA Euro 2024.

Scotland have to pick up points against Switzerland and Hungary, and Tierney, tipped to return to Celtic later in his career, needs to show what he is capable of.
