‘Honestly’: Cesc Fabregas names the Liverpool player who has ‘got the whole lot’

Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, and Cesc Fabregas has been particularly impressed by one of them.

Mohamed Salah is one of the best forwards on the planet and remains a force to be reckoned with despite being 32.

Virgil van Dijk is also 32, but the Netherlands international still is as capable a central defender as anyone. William Saliba rates Van Dijk highly.

As for Alisson, the Brazil international is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Sky Sports Gary Neville thinks highly of Alisson.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is another top-class Liverpool player, and former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been hugely impressed with the 25-year-old England international.

Alexander-Arnold is a right-back by trade, but there have been calls for the Liverpool star to play in midfield.

That is where England head coach Gareth Southgate deployed him against Serbia in UEFA Euro 2024 on Sunday.

Cesc Fabregas notes what makes Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold special

Speaking in the build-up to the game, Fabregas said just what makes Alexander-Arnold a very good option in midfield.

Fabregas said about Alexander-Arnold on BBC One (7:47 pm, June 16, 2024): “What I like about him is you put him in any part of the pitch, in any position, and he will deliver.

“What I like, I said before, he plays forward, he does it with so much ease.

“What I seek always, in midfield, you need to see the furthest player. If you cannot play the furthest player, you start playing a little bit short.

“Honestly speaking, I haven’t seen many players in my lifetime that make this type of transition, this type of passing, short, long, switches of play with so much ease, with natural ability.

“He can make final passes inside the box as well, he can take set-pieces, free kicks. He has got the whole lot, for me.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield for Liverpool, Conor Bradley at right-back

Although Alexander-Arnold was not at his best in midfield for England against Serbia, the Liverpool star did give a good account of himself in that role.

True, against better opposition, Alexander-Arnold could have struggled, especially when you note that there was a moment in the first half when he gave the ball away that led to Aleksandar Mitrovic almost scoring.

However, it must be considered that the 25-year-old has not properly got a run of games in midfield.

Perhaps if Alexander-Arnold does well in midfield for England, like talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino expects him to, then new Liverpool manager Arne Slot could give him a permanent berth in the middle of the park.

Conor Bradley stepped up last season when Alexander-Arnold was injured and impressed Neil Lennon.

There is every chance that the Northern Ireland International could make the right-back role at Liverpool his own if Alexander-Arnold goes into midfield.
