‘I don't know how much’: Martin Keown criticises Euro 2024 playmaker Arsenal are interested in

Arsenal will keep a close watch on UEFA Euro 2024 for two reasons.

Firstly, Arsenal have a number of players at the competition in Germany. Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Jorginho are some of the big-name Gunners stars at UEFA Euro 2024.

Secondly, the Gunners will want to see how their potential transfer targets are doing.

After all, Arsenal are aiming to make additions to their squad in the summer transfer window.

One of the players Arsenal have shown interest in is Xavi Simons, and he was in action for the Netherlands on Sunday.

HITC reported last month that Arsenal have an interest in signing Simons in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Aston Villa are also keen on the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain.

The youngster’s performance did not impress Arsenal legend and pundit Martin Keown, who was on co-commentatory duty for the match on BBC One.

Keown said on BBC One after Simons came off: “Ronald Koeman has made a change on the right hand side and I think Netherlands look better for it.

“Xavi Simons is pleasing on the eye but I don’t know how much he really creates.”

Criticism of Xavi Simons is harsh

While Simons did not have the best of games for the Netherlands against Poland, it is a bit harsh of Keown to say that he does not create much.

Simons was brilliant for RB Leipzig last season. He scored eight goals and gave 11 assists in the Bundesliga and scored two goals and provided two assists in the UEFA Champions League. Ian Wright was impressed with Simons.

In 2022-23, the youngster scored 19 goals and gave eight assists in the Eredivisie.

Simons was deployed on the right wing against Poland. It is not the youngster’s best position. He is better off playing more centrally.

Even then, the Dutchman gave three key passes and had a pass accuracy of 85.2%.
