English national media react to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka’s performance v Serbia at Euro 2024

The English media have given their verdict on Arsenal star Bukayo Saka after last night’s performance against Serbia at Euro 2024.

The 22-year-old winger started out on the right as Saka proved to be one of England’s best players on the pitch in Gelsenkirchen, with the Arsenal forward setting up the only game of the match with a deflected cross that was headed in by Jude Bellingham.

Arsenal fans on social media were in awe with Saka’s display on the night, and with the attacker coming off with 15 minutes to play, the England superstar is being treated carefully by Gareth Southgate after a long season with the Gunners.

‘Explosive’ Saka was ‘dangerous’ for England in 1-0 win vs Serbia

Given the controversy surrounding Saka the last time the winger put on an England shirt, this time around has seen the Arsenal star receive a huge round of praise from the national media.

BBC Sport praised the Hale End academy graduate for being one of England’s ‘major positives’, with Saka ‘looking refreshed and particularly dangerous’ having hardly played for the Three Lions in the build-up to the Euros.

The Guardian were also full of good words to say about Saka, with the 22-year-old’s ‘explosive acceleration’ noted as a key reason why the attacker enjoyed so much freedom against Serbia, particularly in the first half.

Whilst Bellingham was the star of the show for England, the Telegraph showed their appreciation for Saka by awarding the Arsenal forward an 8/10 rating, with the youngster praised for his ‘powerful’ runs and showing ‘strength’ to beat Serbia defenders to create chances.

Saka has again showed why he’s one of England’s best players

Saka was one of England’s star performers at the 2020 Euros and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and after just one game at this summer’s tournament in Germany, it’s clear that the Arsenal man will again be a key performer.

The 22-year-old assisted the sole goal of the match and caused Serbia a lot of problems down the right for a good 60 minutes, with the England coaching staff making the right decision to bring the winger off in the second-half.

With Serbia arguably England’s hardest game on paper in the groups stages, Saka playing a starring role is an encouraging sign of what’s to come this summer, and Arsenal fans could be braced for something quite special.
