Bishop’s Stortford second team beat Rickmansworth in Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League

The Heywood brothers secured a five-wicket victory for Bishop’s Stortford II in the nick of time at home to Rickmansworth in Saracens Hertfordshire League, Division 2B on Saturday.

Captain Will Heywood (35no) and sibling Richie (3no) ensured the leaders reached their victory target with four balls to spare.

Rain meant the match was reduced to a T20 affair and the hosts opted to bowl after winning the toss when play got under way at 3.30pm.

The away side lost wickets regularly and had to settle for 112-7 from their 20 overs.

Joseph De Souza picked up 2-20 and there was a wicket apiece for Richie Heywood, Harry Pigram, James Woollerson and Zach Ahmed.

Stortford lost early wickets in the run chase before Hugh Williams (33) and Joe Bunyan (17) put on 49 together to get them to 53-3.

It was then down to the Heywoods to guide the table-toppers to 113-5 in the final over.

In the Premier Division, thefirst team’s first timed match of the season at Totteridge Millhillians was abandoned.

The wet weather delayed the start and resulted in the match being reduced to a 38-34 game, with Stortford asked to bat after losing the toss.

The major contributors to their total of 142 all out were Adam Bassingthwaighte, who made a lively 30 runs off 16 balls, Joe Hawkins (29) and Will Dommett (21).

The hosts had reached 74-1 when the rain forced an abrupt end to proceedings at 5.45pm, with Austin Osborne getting the one wicket to fall.

Tom Waring’s 41 was in vain for the third team as they went down by eight wickets at home to Nazeing Common in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.

The home team struggled against a top bowling attack - Peter Barker got 3-44 - and were removed for 132.

And the visitors got home comfortably as Luke Rivers, who was unbeaten on 56, guided them to 134-2.

There was better fortune for the fourth team as they registered their first Division One win of the campaign at Sawbridgeworth III.

Stortford, who were asked to bat first in the match reduced to 30 overs per side, recovered from a slow start to post 159-6, with Simon Sargent hitting 63. Charlie Newman took 2-4.

Sawbo were looking okay at 76-3, but Graeme Sumner claimed 4-19 and George Howes took 3-25 as they were dismissed for 100. Charles Robinson top-scored with 27.
