Aston Villa handed transfer boost as club ‘desperate’ to sell £50m Douglas Luiz replacement

Aston Villa have been handed a boost in their pursuit of one rumoured target as the player’s club makes their stance known.

Unai Emery and Monchi have their minds focused firmly on the departures set to happen at Villa Park in the coming days.

Aston Villa will be eyeing June 30th to make sales to aid their PSR concerns, with Douglas Luiz likely to depart to join Juventus.

Jhon Duran’s future has also been heavily speculated about, as the club bid to balance the books before July.

Then, it will be expected that Emery and Monchi will have more clarity on their budget for incomings, with one target’s transfer stance now explained.

Aston Villa learn Everton transfer stance on target Amadou Onana

This week, Villa were linked to Amadou Onana by The Times, with Arsenal and PSG also named as interested parties.

The midfielder is said to sport a price tag ‘in excess of £50m’, making a transfer difficult for Villa to imagine until sales are completed to resolve PSR.

That being said, the Villans could be in a good position to poach Onana if sufficient profit is generated as Everton’s stance on the player has been made clear.

As relayed by journalist Alan Nixon, the Toffees are ‘desperate to sell’ the midfielder, with the Merseyside club said to be hopeful of the player having a strong summer at the Euros.

Like Villa, Everton are amidst a battle to resolve PSR concerns, hence their sizable price tag for the impressive Premier League star.

It remains to be seen whether Villa can hand Everton their asking price for Onana, who would be the perfect successor to Luiz who nears an exit.

Onana could solve Unai Emery’s Douglas Luiz woes

At the end of last term, not many would have anticipated that Luiz would be close to leaving Villa Park so soon after the 2023/24 campaign.

Due to PSR concerns, Villa have their hands tied when it comes to offloading the Brazilian, who looks poised to join Juventus.

To adhere to PSR, Emery will subsequently lose one of his best midfielders however, Onana could fill such void.

As seen above based on their statistics over the 2023/24 Premier League season, Onana and Luiz have similar approaches to play progressively, with the Belgian offering a far more defensive edge than the Villa man.

It would be interesting to see the Belgian in Emery’s system due to his similarities with Luiz although, interest from elsewhere could make Villa’s pursuit incredibly difficult.
