Report: Leeds United drop their asking price for 'leader' by £2m as they look for summer sale

Leeds United have sorted the future of three of the eight players that left Elland Road last summer using Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause, and they have just reduced the price tag of another.

Robin Koch was always going to leave Leeds permanently and join Frankfurt despite initially joining the Bundesliga club on loan. His contract at Elland Road expired at the end of the current campaign.

Luis Sinisterra has joined Koch in turning his loan into a permanent move, with Bournemouth willingly spending north of £20m to sign the Colombia international on a permanent basis from Elland Road.

Brenden Aaronson has made the shock move to return to Leeds and confirm he will be a part of next season’s push for promotion, almost as if he is like a new signing for the club come the 2024-25 season.

Jack Harrison and Marc Roca are expected to have loan clauses still in their contracts, but for Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente and Max Wober, there is still plenty of work to be done regarding their future.

Leeds make Max Wober decision ahead of Euro 2024 bow

Wober will be in action tonight for his country as Austria kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against France. The Leeds-owned defender will be tasked with keeping the likes of Kylian Mbappe quiet.

It comes after just six months at Leeds in which Wober was reunited with Jesse Marsch for little over a month, before the American was sacked. Wober jumped ship last summer, going on loan to Gladbach.

He cited the reason for his exit was to maintain his place in Ralf Rangnick’s side ahead of Euro 2024 and from that point of view, the loan has worked. But it does mean the “leader” now has an uncertain future.

Initially, Leeds wanted £14.5m to sell Wober in the summer

Wober played 25 of 34 Bundesliga games for Gladbach during 2023-24 and was largely first choice for the mid-table German side. A safe season, without ever really excelling or doing anything drastic.

Initial reports said that Leeds wanted a £14.5m fee for the Austria star, who has can play centre-back, left of a three or left-back. But now, German outlet Bild deliver an update and it is a reduced price tag.

They say that Leeds are now ‘demanding’ a fee of £12.5m for Wober, though Gladbach are unwilling to pay that much cash despite Leeds trying to compromise and reduce the price tag by a fee of £2m.

Perhaps, Euro 2024 could allow Wober to gain more suitors and a club that is willing to pay what Leeds are looking for. But as things stand, Leeds’ price tag is still too much for Gladbach this summer.
