Report: Leeds now want 'brilliant' Championship defender but he has the same agent as Djed Spence

Leeds United are one of five clubs said to be interested in signing a Sunderland defender this summer as Daniel Farke looks to address his lack of right-back options.

Already this summer, Leeds have waved goodbye to Connor Roberts after his loan at Elland Road and while there is some interest in signing Roberts permanently, Leeds will be made to wait to sign him.

That is because Burnley are without a manager. Sam Byram has penned a new one-year deal but his injury record is nothing new, while Archie Gray is deemed a midfielder playing out of position on the right.

With Jamie Shackleton still scheduled to leave the club at the end of the month, Leeds need a new right-back and perhaps even two. One that could cover both sides of defence would be ideal if at all possible.

Leeds eye Sunderland star but shares agent with Djed Spence

A new report from Leeds Live states that Leeds are interested in raiding Jack Clarke’s Sunderland for 22-year-old right-back Trai Hume. The “brilliant” ace started all of Sunderland’s 46 league games last term.

Hume is renowned for his incredible stamina and work ethic and judging by his ability to start all 46 league games, his reliability too. The full-back can play on either side of the defence, and in the middle.

Leeds are not alone in their pursuit of Hume, however. Aston Villa are looking at a deal with Poland star Matty Cash a target for AC Milan, while Napoli, Leicester and Bournemouth are also said to be keen.

Another issue for Leeds might be that Hume is presented by CAA Base, who according to TransferMarkt, also look after Djed Spence. Of course, Spence endured a dismal time at Leeds, his loan cancelled early.

Interest in Hume is nothing new with Leeds previously linked

Ahead of the January window, Leeds were linked with a move for Hume but faced competition from Burnley and Leicester to land Hume but he stayed put at the Stadium of Light, at least until now.

Hume would be a wonderful signing given his Championship experience and that he rarely gets injured, something which cannot be said about Byram. He could be a long-term replacement for Luke Ayling
