The Weekly Rundown, our early-in-the-week column that focuses on all sorts of Penn State and college athletics news and information, is back!

Sure bets

Penn State will land at least one commitment this week. Whether it’s New Jersey four-star Jahmir Joseph, who is fresh off an official visit, or someone(s) else, the Lions should have no problem adding to the Class of 2025 this week. A year ago at this time, they picked up safety Vaboue Toure and receivers Josiah Brown and Tyseer Denmark in the third week of June. So, there is precedent for Penn State to get hot over the next seven days.

The new Nittany Lion wrestling name, image, and likeness director will be revealed soon. It could be announced any moment now. We’ve heard the new hire will be a program and university alum from the Cael Sanderson era. If the wrestling team wanted to go down a similar path to the football team’s Director of Life Skills hire of Jordan Hill, someone like Nico Megaludis could make a lot of sense for this new role.

Watch list season is delayed this year. You may remember reading a lot about preseason award watch lists in June of 2023. You won’t do so this year. That’s because the NCFAA has pushed back the roll out of award watch lists until late July. The Maxwell Award will kick things off July 29 and the Butkus Award wraps them up Aug. 13.

The jury is out on these Penn State topics

What number will Tyseer Denmark wear? The newly-arrived Class of 2024 signee and wide receiver from Philadelphia is officially on the roster but does not have a number yet. He should be assigned one soon, however.

How many commits will the Lions land before the end of June? We’re betting on at least one new player coming aboard in the Class of 2025 this week. But how many will do so by the end of the month? Let’s set that total at 3.5 and lean toward the over.

Will we learn who the White Out game opponent is this week? James Franklin made clear last week that he and everyoene else in the athletic department are ready to reveal the White Out game opponent for 2024. But, they can’t do so just yet. Will this be the week they finally do, however? Time will tell.

This Nittany Lion topic has our attention

Penn State did not have one player on PFF’s way-too-early All-American team. And, that surprised us a bit. Whether its one of the running backs, defensive ends, or safeties, we feel confident in saying that the Lions will end up with at least one first-team All-American by the end of the season.
