Aston Villa are set to appoint key European figure to help combat FFP fears

Aston Villa are set to appoint a leading figure from Scottish giants Celtic as they hope to overcome any FFP fears.

As Villa look to cement itself as one of the biggest teams in England once more, one big issue that is haunting them is FFP.

Villa made a loss of nearly £120 million in 2023 which has burdened them since the 2023/24 season’s close.

As a result, sales are needed. It is believed that Villa needs to make £58.3 million before June 30 to avoid any breaches.

This has seen strong rumours that Jhon Duran will depart to Chelsea as well as Douglas Luiz leaving for Juventus.

However, in order to avoid this situation again, Villa are now looking to appoint Celtic’s long-standing commercial director.

Aston Villa are set to appoint Celtic’s commercial director Adrian Filby

Celtic’s commercial director Adrian Filby has enjoyed a long-standing spell at the Scottish giants.

Currently on his second spell at the club, he rejoined the Hoops in 2008 after previously being a backroom figure between 1997 and 2002.

As the commercial director, he has achieved many feats in recent years. In 2020, Celtic signed what is believed to be the most lucrative kit deal sponsorship deal in Scottish sports history after agreeing to a five-year deal with adidas believed to be worth £30 million.

Following this, in 2022 Ladbrokes became the in-stadium betting partner in 2022. A four-year deal was also signed with EA Sports as they became an exclusive partner of the gaming company.

Now, according to Glasgow World, Filby is set to end his 16-year second spell at Celtic to join Villa.

Following up the story, Claret Villians commented that while there may not be an immediate impact on Villa’s finances, there is hope that his expertise in securing big-money deals will help the club secure a more stable financial future.

For all of the potential on-field signings Villa may secure over the coming months, Filby could easily become the signing of the summer for the Birmingham outfit.

As successful as the club were in the 2023/24 campaign, the forced sales of star players could end up sending the side backwards. Therefore, Villa’s troubles off the field needed to be settled once and for all.

Filby certainly has the experience and the track record of securing big deals that can take a club to the next level financially. If he can work his magic off the field at Villa, there is no reason why the club can’t stay amongst England’s elite teams.

Commercial income will always be one of the most important aspects of any club and if Filby can dramatically increase this, he will become invaluable to Villa.
