She explained that Donald Trump remained mostly silent during discussions about military aid to Ukraine, but in private conversations, he understood that providing weapons was the right decision.
According to Ernst, Trump considers it something that needs to be done.
The agency notes that the last time the Iowa senator saw Trump was on June 13, when he had lunch with Senate Republicans at the US Capitol. At that time, the media reported that the main focus was on presenting a united Republican front in upcoming election campaigns. However, Trump and the senators also discussed various policy issues.

Ernst is a member of the Senate Ukraine Caucus and supported sending lethal aid years before Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Most recently, she met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other high-ranking officials as part of a bipartisan Congressional delegation to Ukraine in early April.
The senator is confident that the US will not abandon Ukraine to Russia even if Republicans gain control of the Senate. Ernst also advocated for continuing military aid to Ukraine.
