Aston Villa make Robin Olsen stance very clear as Monchi ready to bid for ‘superb’ player

Unai Emery has made his thoughts on Robin Olsen very clear as Aston Villa prepare to move for a new goalkeeper.

Aston Villa have started the transfer window quickly as Douglas Luiz’s pending transfer to Juventus is stealing the spotlight.

The Midlands club are hoping to ease their PSR concerns before June 30th, with Luiz, Philippe Coutinho and Jhon Duran all linked with moves away.

While the current focus is on departures, some arrivals have also been linked to Villa Park, with reports now suggesting that Monchi is preparing to make a move for one target.

Aston Villa preparing a move for Famalicao goalkeeper Luiz Junior

As reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Villa are preparing to move for Famalicao goalkeeper Luiz Junior.

The report claims that Monchi will ‘present a proposal’ for the shot-stopper as soon as next week, adding that Villa are ready to spend on the 23-year-old.

A price of €12m (£10m) is mentioned in the report, with it not detailed whether such fee would be enough to lure the Brazilian away from Famalicao.

Only time will tell if Villa make a move for the impressive ‘keeper, with the interest proving Unai Emery’s stance on one player’s future in the squad.

Luiz Junior interest hints at Unai Emery’s stance on Robin Olsen

Lauded as ‘simply superb’ for his efforts over the 2023/24 season for Famalicao by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Luiz Junior had a stellar campaign in Portugal.

Such praise can’t be sung about Robin Olsen, who is Villa’s current backup ‘keeper behind Emi Martinez.

Interest in the Famalicao ace reinforces that Emery doesn’t see Olsen as a worthy number two to Martinez, making links to Luiz Junior fascinating.

The numbers prove all that needs to be told about Olsen and importantly, about the Villa target.

As per Sofascore, Olsen conceded an average of 2.6 goals per game for Villa in the Premier League and prevented a disastrous -1.60, numbers that contrast those of Luiz Junior.

In Liga Portugal, the 23-year-old conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game and prevented a monstrous 9.49 goals, a significant statistic when compared to Martinez, who prevented 4.57 at Villa last term.

Given that Villa have a firm number one in Martinez, it’s ambitious and encouraging to see Emery and Monchi eager to bolster the quality of the squad beyond the starting XI.
