Miss the Nokia Lumia? Get ready for an interesting surprise from HMD

Nokia Lumia phones might have been discontinued in 2016, but it looks like they’re about to make a return – at least when it comes to design.

As FoneArena reports, the so-called ‘HMD Skyline’ has appeared in leaked renders, and it looks extremely similar to Lumia phones of old, including its distinctive yellow design.

Of course, there’s one major difference compared to those classic devices: software. While previous Lumia phones ran the now-discontinued Windows Phone operating system, this HMD model will use Android.

According to @smashx_60 on X (formerly Twitter), it’ll be a mid-range 5G device, making it more expensive than most of the handsets HMD makes, which are usually budget devices.

According to FoneArena, the device will feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, complete with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. The phone is also expected to run on a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, alongside 256GB of storage and options for 8- or 12GB of RAM. The battery capacity is said to be 4,900mAh, supporting 33W wired charging and 30W Qi wireless charging.

According to this leak, the HMD Skyline will also feature a triple-camera setup on the rear, consisting of a 108Mp primary sensor, 8Mp ultrawide sensor and 2MP macro or depth sensor. For selfies, it will have a 32Mp front camera.

Plenty of other smartphone staples will be included, such asn IP67 water and dust resistance rating, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. You even get a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of software support, the leak suggests you can expect three years of updates.

Potential pricing has only been revealed in Europe, with the 8GB model supposedly costing €459, while the 12GB version costs €499. If true, this phone will be up against the similarly priced Pixel 8a (£499) and the slightly cheaper Galaxy A55 (£439).

However, despite the detailed information, it remains unclear when HMD Global plans to launch the handset. Could it be one of the best mid-range phones you can buy? Only time will tell.
