Arsenal fans had a lot to say about Oleksandr Zinchenko after Ukraine loss v Romania at Euro 2024

Arsenal fans have given their verdict on the performance Oleksandr Zinchenko produced as Ukraine were stunned by Romania at Euro 2024.

Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko was on the losing side of a shock result at Euro 2024 today as Romania beat Ukraine 3-0 in Munich.

Beyond the Gunners’ left-back, the Ukraine squad contains a number of big names, including Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, La Liga goal machine Artem Dovbyk, and Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who Mikel Arteta was once desperate to sign for Arsenal.

Despite this healthy sprinkling of star quality, though, Ukraine were still undone by Romania, who produced a spirited performance to claim a deserved 3-0 win.

Ukraine enjoyed plenty of possession, with Zinchenko at left-back seeing a lot of the ball. However, they struggled to break down their opponents’ dogged resistance, and then were disorganised at the back themselves.

The Arsenal man is a leader within the Ukraine team, and is one of their key players that they often look to to make a difference. He is also often deployed in the middle of the park, where he can exert a greater influence on the game, for his country.

However, due to an injury to Everton’s Vitalii Mykolenko, Zinchenko was required to take up the left-back role, that he plays for Arsenal, in this match.

Many fans of the North London club watched the 27-year-old play in this match and were far from impressed by what they saw.

Arsenal fans react to Oleksandr Zinchenko’s performance for Ukraine v Romania at Euro 2024

Plenty of Arsenal fans took to X in the wake of Ukraine’s shock defeat to share their thoughts on Zinchenko’s performance.

One supporter branded the 64-cap international: “clueless.”

Another said: “If your team is playing vs Zinchenko, its an easy win.”

One Arsenal fan observed: “Zinchenko having a stinker.”

However, another came somewhat to the left-back’s defence, suggesting: “This game is so much different with Zinchenko in midfield and Mykolenko at LB. Such a shame that the latter picked up an injury.”

Arsenal losing patience with Zinchenko

This is not the first time Zinchenko has come in for criticism from Arsenal fans, and Arteta certainly seemed to lose some patience with the former Manchester City man last season as he slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are now open to selling Zinchenko this summer, and it would be ideal for the North London club if he could impress at Euro 2024 enough to attract some potential suitors. He certainly hasn’t managed that so far, though.
