Ossenfort played high school baseball at Marjory Stoneman Douglass H.S. in Florida. He was the No. 332 overall player and No. 10 first baseman in the 2023 recruiting cycle, per Perfect Game. Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin raved about Ossenfort following his commitment to the program.

“Matt comes to us with a high aptitude for hitting,” Corbin said. “He is a well-rounded hitter who has power and uses the whole field. I love his potential inside our program. Ozzie is a very competitive player with a strong desire to be good. He is a personable young man with a curious mind. A lot of fun to coach.”

Ossenfort boasted a .392 batting average with 10 home runs, 35 RBI and seven doubles as a senior in high school. For his efforts, he was named the 2023 Cal Ripken Collegiate League Hitter of the Year and an All-State selection.

Vanderbilt finished the 2024 campaign with a 38-23 overall record and a 13-17 mark in conference play. The team suffered a season-ending 10-9 loss to High Point in the Clemson Regional. Matt Ossenfort did not see action in the game.

ECU transfer OF Bristol Carter commits to Auburn

The 2024 season didn’t go how Auburn wanted it to on the diamond, but they’re hoping to change that next season. On Monday, Auburn landed a transfer commitment from a very highly touted player, getting the commitment from former ECU outfielder Bristol Carter.

Carter officially entered the NCAA transfer portal 11 days ago on June 6.

During the 2024 season, Carter hit .346 with two home runs and 31 RBI as a freshman at ECU. He played in 56 games with 46 starts, primarily playing left field. He profiles more as a center fielder, and spent some time there during the season as well.

Carter was named to the All-AAC Freshman Team and has earned Second Team Freshman All-American honors from Perfect Game.

In addition to his two home runs, Carter had seven doubles and a triple. He struck out 23 times at the plate, walking 12 times with six hit by pitches. He stole four bases on the year, though he has dynamic speed that makes him an immediate threat on the basepaths.

Even with just two home runs on the season as a freshman, Carter does have some pop in his swing and could add some power to his game as he continues to develop.
