ITV pundit claims you just 'can’t take your eyes off’ Euro 2024 'machine' who rejected Arsenal

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has been impressed by one recent Arsenal transfer target at Euro 2024.

Benjamin Sesko has already caught the eye at Euro 2024.

Arsenal were keen to sign the striker this summer. However, Sesko ultimately rejected the opportunity to join Arsenal and opted to extend his stay at RB Leipzig instead.

The 21-year-old forward is now in Germany, representing Slovenia at Euro 2024. He started for his country as they got their tournament campaign underway with a 1-1 draw against Denmark on Sunday.

Although Sesko did not get on the scoresheet himself in that fixture, he was able to show flashes of real quality, and came close with a couple of efforts on goal, including one which crashed against the upright.

It is easy to see why Mikel Arteta was so keen on the attacker. Sesko is a powerful, physically imposing presence at the top of the pitch, but also offers intelligent movement in the final third and boasts excellent technique. Sesko has been described as a “machine” in the past.

Benjamin Sesko impresses for Slovenia at Euro 2024 after saying no to Arsenal

Ally McCoist liked what he saw from Sesko against the Danes. Commentating on ITV (16/06/2024, 18:17), the Scot said: “One of the highlights of the first half was that shot that he had. So, that would suggest that you can’t take your eyes off him for a split second.”

Sesko is certainly an exciting player, but the Gunners’ must now take their summer search for a striker elsewhere.

Arsenal might consider making a move for Dominic Solanke, as the Bournemouth forward offers a similar profile to Sesko.

Alternatively, Arteta may instead opt to pivot his focus to bringing in a wide forward, seeing as Arsenal already have Kai Havertz to call upon to lead the line.

Arsenal stars Kai Havertz and Declan Rice shine at Euro 2024

Havertz has already impressed Arsenal fans at Euro 2024, as he found the back of the net for Germany when the hosts put Scotland to the sword in the opening match of the competition.

In any case, having missed out on Sesko, signing a midfielder is now the top priority for Arsenal. Declan Rice needs support in that part of the pitch.

However, the club are currently unsure on which targets to pursue for this vacancy as Arteta is yet to make a final decision on what Rice’s role will be for Arsenal next season. The 25-year-old thrived when given license to push forward last season, but the media praised Rice for his more defensively-minded showing for England on Sunday.
