General Election: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visits Cambridge and says only Tories will make it clear that ‘sex means biological sex’

Rishi Sunak visited Cambridge on Monday - and said the Conservatives will go into next month’s General Election as the only party who will make it “crystal clear” that “sex means biological sex”.

The Conservatives have pledged to amend the Equality Act, which the party says will make it simpler for service providers for women and girls, such as those running sessions for domestic abuse victims, to prevent biological males from taking part.

He told an audience of supporters in Cambridge this evening (17 June): “It is only the Conservative Party in this election that is going to reform the Equality Act, making it crystal clear that sex means biological sex because that’s what we believe.”

Mr Sunak was speaking at Cambridge Rugby Club, where he was joined by Conservative Parliamentary candidates Lucy Frazer, who is standing in the Ely and East Cambridgeshire constituency, and Chris Carter-Chapman, who will stand in South Cambridgeshire. Also in attendance was South Cambridgeshire District Council Conservative group leader Cllr Heather Williams.

The Prime Minister continued: “I can tell you I get asked a lot about the polls, as you might imagine, and you know what I say? I say the only poll that matters is the one on July 4, and we are going to fight every day until that election.

“And it’s important that we do because if those polls were replicated at a General Election then it would mean handing Labour and Keir Starmer, a blank cheque: a blank cheque to do whatever he wanted, put up everyone’s taxes completely unchecked, with no one to stand up to them. And that’s why this election is so important.

“That’s why we need to fight so hard, because at this election, there is only one party that is going to deliver a government that cuts everyone’s taxes, and it’s the Conservatives.

“There’s only one party that is going to stand up for the values that our country believes in: opportunity, freedom, security, aspiration, and it’s the Conservative Party.

“And it’s only one party that has a clear plan that will take bold action to deliver a more secure future for our country, and it's the Conservative Party. So let’s get out there. Let's fight hard. Let's get everyone to vote conservative. So we can stand up for Britain.”
