‘He did again’: International manager told he is misusing Arsenal player at Euro 2024

TalkSPORT pundit Alan Pardew has said that one particular Arsenal player is not being used properly at UEFA Euro 2024.

A number of Arsenal players are turning out for their respective national teams at UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.

Jorginho is playing for Italy, Kai Havertz was among the goals for Germany last week, and Kieran Tierney has turned out for Scotland.

On Sunday evening, Arsenal had their star winger Bukayo Saka in action for England against Serbia.

The Three Lions won their opening group-stage game at Euro 2024 1-0. Saka was involved in the goal.

Another Arsenal player who started for England against Serbia was Declan Rice.

Three Lions head coach Gareth Southgate played him in holding midfield alongside Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who gave a good account of himself in that position despite being a right-back by trade.

Alan Pardew wants Declan Rice change for England

Former West Ham United and Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew thinks that Southgate was wrong to allow Rice to sit deep.

The talkSPORT pundit has said that Rice should be given the freedom to push forward, as he does for Arsenal.

Pardew said about Rice on talkSPORT (8:55 am, June 17, 2024): ’There is an interesting thing about Rice, you know, because I think when he is at Arsenal, you know, he doesn’t always play as a number 6.

“They play Jorginho and they push him on, and that might be because when he does play number 6, he sits too deep, and he did again last night.

“I generally think there has to, we have to kind of encourage Rice to get us up the pitch more.”

No need for Declan Rice to play the Arsenal role for England

Rice is a very good and combative midfielder who can shield the back-four as well as push the team forward.

The England international midfielder imposes himself in the middle of the park. Rice is also good at set-pieces and performs consistently well.

While it must be acknowledged that Rice’s attacking instincts are very helpful for England, the Three Lions have to hold it together in the middle of the park as well.

In Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, Southgate has two of the best attack-minded midfielders around. There is no need for Rice to push on and join them in attack.

England need Rice to protect the back-four and break the opposition’s play.
