Deputies were able to retrieve one of the men, identified as 42-year-old Wattie Cappers of Syracuse, and he was transported to Upstate Hospital in stable condition.

Fire department divers located the second man, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Davis of Clay, and pulled him from the water. He was transported to Upstate Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the sheriff's office, Cappers, Davis and another man were out fishing for Father's Day when Davis' keys fell into the water. He went into the water to retrieve them, and couldn't make it back to land. Cappers jumped in after Davis in an attempt to rescue him, but he also couldn't make it back to land. That's when nearby deputies heard them yelling for help.

The sheriff's office said the incident is under investigation.
