With the release of the fixtures for the 2024/25 season, Southampton’s return to the Premier League now feels very real.

Having suffered relegation after finishing bottom of the Premier League in the 2022/23 season Southampton ensured their stay in the Championship was a short one as they earned promotion via the play-offs.

Now, manager Russell Martin is preparing for his first Premier League season as a manager and has the task of getting his squad ready for what is likely to be a relegation battle.

With the fixture list confirmed, here is everything you need to know ahead of Southampton’s 2024/25 season in England’s top flight.

When does the 2024/25 Premier League season start?

The 2024/24 Premier League season will commence on the weekend of the 17th August, with the curtain raiser expected to take place on the Friday evening and the rest of the games spread across the weekend.

Southampton started last season in the Championship with a 2-1 win away at Sheffield Wednesday so will hope for a similar outcome just over a year later as they face a trip to Newcastle United on the opening weekend.

The transfer window will remain open for two weeks after the season starts on 2nd September meaning Martin will still have an opportunity to bolster the Southampton ranks as he sees fit after the first couple of games.

When does the 2024/25 Premier League season end?

The final round of Premier League fixtures will be played on Sunday 25th May 2025, with each of the ten games kicking off at the same time as is customary.

Southampton will face Arsenal at St Mary’s on the final day and will be hoping they do not need a result to avoid relegation on the final day given how tough that fixture could be.

Should the Saints go into the final day of the season safe from the threat of relegation then it will likely be deemed a very positive season.
