'All interested': Wrexham target now has 'six offers on the table', need £400k to sign him - journalist

Wrexham are battling against several Championship and League One rivals in a move for one of their key summer targets.

Wrexham are currently planning for their first campaign in League One since 2005, with Phil Parkinson eyeing up several improvements to his squad.

A financial expert expects Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds to give Parkinson a healthy budget to work with as they attempt to challenge for promotion.

The Reds have yet to sign anyone, though they have seen their efforts to sign Wigan’s Jason Kerr rejected while free agent Conor Hourihane chose to sign for Barnsley over the Welsh side.

Wrexham were a big fish in a small pond in League Two but in the third tier, the battle to sign players is much more intense.

Wrexham target Marc Leonard has six offers on the table

Wrexham have been chasing a move for Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard for the past few weeks.

The Seagulls are preparing to sell the 22-year-old, who starred on loan at Northampton Town last season, but Parkinson’s men face real competition for his signature.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, six clubs have placed offers on the table for him, including Championship sides Oxford United, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and Derby County.

Witcoop believes Brighton are willing to offload the talented midfielder for £400,000, and although Wrexham haven’t tabled a bid, as per the tweet, they would be smashing their transfer record to capture him.

Their current record signing is striker Ollie Palmer, who was signed for £300,000 from AFC Wimbledon in January 2022.

Wrexham will find it difficult to sign Marc Leonard

Wrexham are an attractive proposition currently following back-to-back promotions.

The Reds have shown incredible ambition under McElhenney and Reynolds to land players such as James McClean and Steven Fletcher previously.

That has given supporters hope of landing Leonard from Brighton however, beating Championship clubs to his signature looks like a difficult task.

Leonard proved himself to be one of the best midfielders in League One last term, producing five goals and six assists across 46 appearances.

The midfield metronome will feel his talent warrants a shot at playing in the second tier, so with bids being tabled by Cardiff, Oxford, Birmingham and Derby, the chances of Wrexham beating that quartet to the Scottish star look incredibly slim.

It will be interesting to see what decision Leonard makes regarding his future and whether Wrexham join their rivals in tabling a club-record bid for the player.
