Jake Diebler welcomes back Buckeyes alums to train with current team

Jake Diebler is from Northwest Ohio. He’s spent close to a decade at Ohio State across his two stints with the school. His brother Jon in is the program’s all-time leading 3-point shooter.

He understands Ohio State, and he respects what the men’s basketball program has been and can be.

That’s why he’s placed such an emphasis on including former players, really since he got the call up from associate head coach to interim head coach in mid-February. Diebler hasn’t stopped since earning the full-time promotion.

“Guys are gonna be coming around here this summer,” Diebler told reporters last week. “Like that’s why — I just want them around because they lived it. They walked these halls when they were cutting down nets. And that’s what we’re striving for. We’re not going to shy away from that.

“… It’ll be hard. We’re going to face adversity. But I think just if we can lean back and say, ‘Hey, this is why we’re doing it,’ that’s going to help us fight through that adversity.”

This week, Diebler’s welcoming back Buckeyes alums to train and scrimmage with his current team. It’s already made for some cool photos and moments in the Schottenstein Center.

The Ohio State men’s basketball X account has posted pictures of one-time Ohio State standouts in the building, such as D’Angelo Russell, Brice Sensabaugh, Duane Washington Jr., E.J. Liddell, Kaleb Wesson and Jae’Sean Tate.

Russell, currently a star point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, posted on X Sunday night, “Wow. Such a cool experience Jake Diebler. Thanks for allowing us into your space coach…”

The blend of eras among visiting alumni makes for a great scene in the Schott. Diebler wants to quickly return Ohio State to the NCAA Tournament — and to winning championships.

He wants his players learning from the guys who have achieved individual and team success before them.

Unpacking observations from June 17 recruiting camp

Ohio State football hosted its fifth and final one-day recruiting camp of the summer Monday. Once again, quite a bit of talent was on hand, including two four-star quarterbacks in the 2026 cycle, plus both the No. 1 EDGE and the No. 1 safety in that class.

Although uncommitted prospects are typically in the spotlight for these camps, Buckeyes commits make their way to Columbus in June to work out in front of the Ohio State staff, too. One of those commits was 2026 Five-Star Plus+ Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., and boy did he put on a show.

Lettermen Row was on site and has observation-filled notebooks for both sides of the ball.

Five questions for Buckeyes improving offensive line unit

The Lettermen Row position preview series continues with “Offensive Line Week.” It’s a big one, considering the Buckeyes didn’t meet their program standard up front last season. Ohio State ranked 88th nationally in rushing offense and finished tied for 47th in sacks allowed per game.

We’ve compiled five questions for the unit heading into the training camp, the first of which revolves around the right guard position. It’s still open to competition, after all.

Will it be Tegra Tshabola who wins the starting job? Carson Hinzman? How about Luke Montgomery?

We explore that and a whole lot more here.
