Report: Club reach agreement with £50k-a-week Man City player, he's 'delighted' they want him

Manchester City could soon bid farewell to one player, who is said to have reached an agreement with another club.

It has been a quiet summer so far, with no major incoming or outgoings.

Euro 2024 has just started, and the Copa America is also about to get underway. Two major tournaments go on could well mean fans have to be a bit patient regarding transfer activity.

But there is always speculation.

And recently, there has been plenty of that about the future of Sergio Gomez, a player who has been on the fringes at the Etihad Stadium pretty much since he signed.

Real Sociedad have been linked in recent weeks, and it seems there has now been a significant development.

It has been reported by Spanish publication AS that Real Sociedad have actually now reached an agreement with Sergio Gomez.

The player is said to have given the move the green light, and his entourage are reported to be excited about the project on offer.

Previously, it has been claimed that Gomez feels the Spanish outfit would fit his style of play like a glove.

It is mentioned that Sociedad did actually first make contact with Gomez a year ago. Nothing materialised then, but the player is said to be ‘delighted with the insistence’ and continued interest’ of Sociedad.

Despite the agreement between Gomez and Sociedad though, a deal remains far off at the moment.

There is no agreement between Sociedad and City yet, with City holding out for around £12.6 million. That is beyond what Sociedad can currently pay.

Sociedad are believed to be looking to propose a loan move with option to buy, and they would also be open to City having a future sell-on clause.

Gomez needs fresh move

It will be interesting to see if Gomez gets his move to Sociedad. Clearly, they’ve liked him for a while and seemingly the player likes the fact they have retained interest in him.

It just hasn’t really worked out for £50,000-a-week star Gomez, with Pep Guardiola preferring to use centre-backs at left-back.

And to be fair to the manager, he has had real success deploying the likes of Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol and Manuel Akanji out wide.

Gomez can also play as a winger. But opportunities have been few and far between there for him as well.

He needs a fresh start, and hopefully City and Sociedad can come to some kind of agreement.
