Liverpool set to sign Wolves youngster Alvin Ayman

Despite their success in the transfer market, Wolves have struggled to hold onto some of their best upcoming talents over recent months.

In March, Wolves lost wonderkid Brayden Clarke who departed the club for Arsenal. There are also recent reports that link youngster Wesley Okoduwa to Chelsea.

However, it now seems that another player in Wolves’ academy could be about to depart.

According to The Secret Scout, Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Alvin Ayman. The 16-year-old is highly rated at Wolves and travelled with the first team to Man City last season.

It was reported in May by the Express and Star that Wolves faced a battle to keep both Ayman and Okoduwa with many of the ‘big six’ circling. Exposure to the first team was hoped to help convince the duo to stay. However, it now looks like the youngsters will depart.

If the deal does go through for Ayman, it is believed that Wolves will be due £1.5 million in compensation.

Wolves need to do more to keep their upcoming talents

To see Wolves potentially lose three highly-rated youngsters in a quarter of a year is highly disappointing.

Each one could have easily gone on to play a big part in the first team in the coming years. However, the likelihood now is that many of these youngsters will be facing Wolves in the coming years.

The club simply have to do more to deter their upcoming prospects from leaving so early in their career. Not only does it stop Wolves from progressing in the Premier League, but it also prevents the club from potentially selling on their talents for a big fee.

Since earning promotion to the Premier League, few players have broken into the first team from the academy. This needs to change, especially if the club is aiming to become competitive while remaining self-sufficient.
