Report: Sources close to £35m Man City star expected him to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer

One Manchester City star was reportedly expected by sources close to him that he’ll be leaving the club this summer.

The 2023/24 season saw the Manchester club lift the UEFA SuperCup and the FIFA Club World Cup before securing their sixth Premier League trophy in seven years.

While the focus is on the European Championship taking place in Germany, the latest summer transfer window is currently open for business, with numerous sides across Europe looking to buy and sell players before the next season kicks off.

With that in mind, some behind-the-scenes information has come to light regarding one particular figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad and a potential move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Sources close to Ederson expected him to leave Man City

A recent report from The Athletic said this on the matter.

It said: “The uncertainty around Ederson’s future continues; there were no major reports to advance his situation but sources close to the player, kept anonymous to protect relationships, had been expecting him to make the switch to Saudi Arabia towards the end of last season.

“City do want to keep their No 1 goalkeeper, however.”

City would be losing a key player if Ederson left

Back in May, just a few days before the FA Cup final, Fabrizio Romano claimed on his X account that Ederson could leave City in this summer window, with the Brazilian considering all possibilities, including a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.

Since joining the Manchester club back in 2017 in a £35m deal from Benfica, the 30-year-old has made 332 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

During his time at City, the Brazil international, who Danny Murphy said last month is one of the best footballing goalkeepers the Premier League has ever seen, has won numerous domestic and European trophies.

As City’s first-choice goalkeeper, it’s understandable why the club would want to keep hold of Ederson, who we feel would be a big loss for the team if he were to leave before the summer transfer window closes.
