Wrexham share exciting stadium update, including new Kop redevelopment 'focus' and future plans

Wrexham have now revealed an exciting update on their stadium including the new Kop redevelopment and their future plans.

Wrexham have shown so much progression on the pitch that Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are finding it difficult to keep up in other areas.

The Hollywood owners made it clear from the minute they walked through the door they wanted to build a completely new training ground, though those plans are yet to come to fruition.

Reynolds has previously outlined the struggles of achieving that goal, as while they need a training ground badly, the 47-year-old knows there’s a lot of bureaucracy involved.

In terms of improving the stadium itself, McElhenney and Reynolds have shared ambitious plans to one day build a 50,000-seater arena for the whole of Wrexham to enjoy.

That is a long-term goal for the club while one that is currently in the pipeline is a complete redevelopment of the Kop stand, with Wrexham now providing an update on where they’re currently at.

Reynolds and McElhenney have been eager to expand the grounds’ capacity by installing a new 5,500-seat stand.

Work had originally been due to begin in 2023 but it was delayed because of ‘additional complications’.

The Hollywood owners were instead given the green light to build a temporary stand, which opened in December last year and increased the capacity by 2,289.

Now, in a statement from the club, they’ve confirmed the extension of the stand to ‘approximately 3,000 seats’ while claiming that plans for the new Kop are currently being ‘reassessed’ by the Wrexham Council.

The statement read: “First, we can confirm the extension of the temporary stand, which will accommodate approximately 3,000 seats. This temporary solution will remain in place until the Kop Development begins.

“The Club and Wrexham Council have also reassessed the stadium development plans, particularly the new Kop, to ensure they deliver the best possible fan experience and provide the most value to the community. We plan to focus on making the stadium a year-round destination, not just a match-day venue, which will drive significant economic impact for the city of Wrexham.

“The Club has agreements in principle to purchase the land required for the Kop development’s footprint. In the meantime, the Club is working closely with Wrexham Council to review the terms of the Grant Funding Agreement to ensure it aligns with the future needs of the club.”

Wrexham need a new training ground

The demand for tickets at Wrexham has never been higher.

Following back-to-back promotions, a lot more people now want to attend matches and that is only a positive for the club.

Unfortunately, without the proposed 5,500 stand, they’re struggling to match the demands for tickets and an extension of the temporary stand to a 3,000 capacity was necessary.

McElhenney and Reynolds know that to continue progressing as a club, stadium improvements and a new training ground are paramount.

Currently, Wrexham players train at multiple grounds, including Carden Park, Colliers Park, Lex, Nine Acre and the 4G pitch at Cefn Druids.

Understandably, there has been a clamour for the Hollywood owners to build a training ground close to the stadium so everything is in one place.

That doesn’t like it’s going to happen anytime soon however, it is a necessary step in their progression as a club.
