Alan Pardew says £35m forward is just like Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal, after claims Liverpool could sign him

Liverpool look set to ramp up their transfer efforts over the next couple of weeks.

The Reds have so far kept their powder dry in the market as they wait for the summer tournaments to work themselves out.

However, with Arne Slot due to begin work at the AXA Training Centre in July, things need to start moving a little.

A new centre-back is reportedly on the agenda, with talk continuing that a move for Lille’s Leny Yoro could be in the works.

As well as strengthening the back of the Liverpool squad though, Slot will seemingly try to bolster the front, too. An exciting new forward addition could be on the Liverpool radar.

Crysencio Summerville earns Lamine Yamal comparision

Liverpool do have a fair number of options available in their attack right now. But there is doubt surrounding the futures of some of them. Luis Diaz, for example.

Even if Slot does not lose any of his current attackers, some fans will feel that a fresh forward should be brought in regardless.

Diaz was not exactly prolific last season, while the same could also be said of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. Consequently, a new striker should arguably be right towards the top of Liverpool’s summer agenda.

As they scour the market, one name who keeps cropping up in relation to the Reds is Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville. And according to his former manager Alan Pardew, Summerville could be an exciting addition at Anfield.

“I had him at ADO Den Haag when he was there. We took him on loan,” Pardew told TalkSPORT (18/06/24 08.49am). “He was only like 16, 17. Such a lovely kid.

“I had Alex Dyer assisting me, and we worked really hard with him to try and get him to understand what it really was in terms of men’s football at such a young age. A bit like Yamal at Barcelona. Took like a duck to water. No problem. He never feared anybody and he has brought that to Leeds,” adds the manager.

“What he has is over a three kind of yard spell, he has acceleration that you just can’t stay with him. And he has the technique to beat people. Obviously, once he is gone, forget it, he is gone. It’s just really his final decision that’s going to be the crux for him in terms of reaching the real higher platforms of football.

“He is definitely a Premier League player for sure. What I am saying is to get to Liverpool, Brighton might be a better move for him to see how he copes. Does he pick that moment? That’s the difference between having extraordinary pace and being brilliant in the Premier League is the decision-making process?”

The latest on Crysencio Summerville

Summerville had a decent time on-loan with Pardew. Although he only scored two goals during the 2019/20 Eredivisie season, the then 17-year-old played 21 times.

That signalled the potential which Summerville has now started to realise at Leeds. As Pardew says, he looks like a Premier League player in waiting.

Some fans will question whether the Dutchman can make the step up from the Championship to a massive club like Liverpool, though. Summerville’s reported £35m price-tag is not loose change, after all.

Nevertheless, it does look like the Reds are still actively in for the Netherlands U21 star. As per Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are involved in a three-way fight for Summerville with Chelsea and Brighton.

The next days will reportedly be key to finding out who is going to win that fight. Brighton appear to be favourites, but Liverpool or Chelsea could still come into play.

Although he’s remarkably six years older than Barcelona wonderkid Yamal, if Summerville has something of the Spain international about him, then you can see why Liverpool are in there.
