Alan Nixon claims Derby County have ‘agreed’ deal for first summer signing, but Warne will have to wait

Derby County have ‘agreed’ a deal to complete their first signing of the summer, although Paul Warne will have to wait.

Paul Warne is currently desperate to get names through the door at Derby after releasing six of his first-team players this summer.

Warne believes he needs to make at least nine signings to have a shot at staying in the Championship, with the Rams showing an interest in Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard.

The Derby boss has struggled in the second tier previously following three relegations with Rotherham United and having watched Birmingham City get relegated on 50 points last term, there’s a reason he’s described this Championship as the toughest he’s seen in years.

A way for the Rams to relieve some of the stress and anxiety of the transfer window would be to announce their first signing of the summer. Alan Nixon claimed they were ‘close’ to a couple on Monday, and the journalist has provided a further update on that.

Derby County have ‘agreed’ deal for Premier League loan signing

The Premier League loan market is an avenue Warne looks to be exploring this summer.

There are plenty of talented players available from top-flight clubs, temporarily saving the club money while getting a quality star in return.

Derby are said to be long-term admirers of Liverpool’s Bobby Clark, who could be made available for loan this summer.

He’s the only player from the Premier League to be linked with a loan move to Pride Park, although Nixon has fuelled excitement by stating that the Rams have agreed a deal for an unnamed player but he may start with his club in pre-season training.

Who could Derby County be about to sign on loan?

It’s difficult to say which player Nixon could be referring to as the only link with substance has been Clark. A talented midfielder from Liverpool, the 19-year-old is being eyed by multiple Championship clubs and of course, the Rams are long-term admirers.

Going off Warne’s previous words, he’s looking to strengthen his attack with speed and athleticism. Crystal Palace winger Jesarun Rak-Sakyi could be made available after rarely featuring last term.

The 21-year-old had a fantastic campaign with Charlton Athletic in 2022/23, scoring 15 and assisting eight, so if he is the player Derby have agreed a deal for, they’d be getting an incredible talent.

At this stage, it’s a guessing game as to which player Derby have agreed to capture on loan and some supporters think they’ll announce their first signing with the kit launch next week
