Oppo Watch X gets UK launch but doesn’t fix its clone’s biggest problems

Alongside the unveiling of its new Reno 12 series of smartphones, Oppo has given its latest smartwatch, the Watch X, a UK launch.

It might look very familiar and that’s because it’s essentially identical to the OnePlus Watch 2. Even the starting price of £299 – but this begs one important question…

Why would you buy the Oppo Watch X instead of the OnePlus Watch 2, especially when it doesn’t fix our biggest issues with the wearable?

Both devices are only available in a 46mm body, housing a large 1.43-inch circular display meaning you can rule it out if you have a smaller wrist. It’s simply too big and heavy at only a gram shy of 50g without including a strap.

This could have been a chance for Oppo to launch something slimmer that appeals to a wider customer base, but the company didn’t seize that opportunity.

Other specs are identical with the same dual-engine setup featuring a Snapdragon W5 for a 100-hour battery life, fast charging, Google WearOS and more. And while that’s an advantage over many rivals, the Oppo Watch X also lacks features like LTE connectivity and ECG functionality.

Even with an early bird discount of £20 between 19-27 June, the Watch X’s twin brother is already cheaper at £269 on the official OnePlus store with other offers and discounts available, too.

Oppo offers the Watch X in Platinum Black and Mars Brown colourways but I doubt either of those will sway you over the gorgeous Radiant Steel OnePlus Watch 2.

Plus, you can get the rather striking Nordic Blue edition (above) for £299 (down from £329) giving you even fewer reasons to opt for the Oppo smartwatch if you do want a larger device.

As Oppo is not a big company in America, we assume that this wearable will not get a US launch.
