The Athletic share absolute Jarrod Bowen hammer blow for West Ham

Jarrod Bowen was the standout player for West Ham United last season, and he rightly won the Hamer of the Year award.

West Ham signed Jarrod Bowen from Hull City way back in January 2020, after we beat the likes of Tottenham to his signature.

The 27-year-old forward has gone on to be one of the best players we’ve had over the last decade, bagging 60 goals and 39 assists in 202 games for the Hammers.

Bowen was rewarded for his fine form last season with a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for EURO 2024.

And the West Ham star has already impressed out in Germany with a really bright cameo appearance off the bench during England’s opener against Serbia.

Julen Lopetegui will be delighted to have a player of Bowen’s ilk at the London Stadium, and will surely build his team around the England international.

With players like Bowen at the club, Lopetegui has the making of a really top-class starting XI.

However, a potential issue has just arisen and it looks like really worrying news for the Hammers…

Jarrod Bowen hammer blow for West Ham

The hard-working winger has been the biggest transfer success of the past five years at West Ham, maybe even over the last decade.

He is absolutely adored at the London Stadium, and he clearly loves playing for the Hammers as well.

However, some bad news has just emerged regarding Jarrod.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Newcastle hierarchy are currently discussing the possibility of signing Jarrod Bowen from West Ham this summer.

Now, I have absolutely no doubt that Bowen will remain at the London Stadium. He’s under contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2030 for a start.

However, Newcastle’s interest in signing him is definitely a big blow for West Ham. They have a really ambitious setup at St James’ Park, and will likely finish inside the European spots in the 2024/25 season.

Should the Hammers miss out on qualifying for Europe, and the Toon are successful in doing just that, it may well be difficult to keep the left-footed right winger out of their clutches.

Keeping Jarrod Bowen at West Ham should be one of Lopetegui’s main priorities over the next few years.

Whether we are able to match his ambition remains to be seen though.
