£22m midfielder Declan Rice just called ‘silky’ must be Arsenal’s priority target this summer

Alongside Declan Rice, Arsenal fans will be following several of the club’s stars and transfer targets at Euro 2024 this month and next.

It’s set to be a busy summer at the Emirates Stadium and Edu could oversee the arrival and departure of several players.

And although Arsenal were seemingly keen to execute a deal for Benjamin Sesko before the tournament began, that’s a move that is now off the cards for now given the new contract the striker just signed at RB Leipzig.

But Arsenal fans will still have several Arsenal-linked players they can follow at the tournament including Portugal’s Joao Neves tonight.

Neves is a keen target of Arsenal’s, even if his lofty release clause could scupper any move.

On Monday night fans also got to catch a glimpse of Youssouf Fofana in a France shirt who entered his country’s win against Austria as a late sub.

Fofana would cost Arsenal much less than Neves, but perhaps isn’t quite on the Portuguese maestro’s level.

Although, an England player yet to play a minute in Germany could prove the perfect middleground of both talents.

Adam Wharton is the perfect midfield partner for Declan Rice at Arsenal

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has recently burst onto the Premier League and international scene, a player who cost the south London club £22m in January.

And despite only spending six-months with Palace, it could already be time for Wharton to make his next step given his incredibly fast rise.

Either side of England’s win against Serbia and date with Denmark on Thursday, Rice was asked to describe each of his international teammates in one word.

And after labelling Bukayo Saka ‘starboy’ and Aaron Ramsdale ‘mental’, Rice hailed Wharton as ‘silky’.

And on the evidence of Wharton’s performances for Palace this year and his recent minutes for England, Arsenal shouldn’t hesitate to test Palace’s reserve.

Arsenal are said to be determined to bring a number six or a number eight to north London, someone to complement Rice, and there’s few better options than Wharton.

The midfielder would likely cost more than double the fee Palace paid, but at 20-years-old he could still present real value.

Euro 2024 star Marc Guehi should be on Arsenal’s radar

As well as complementing Wharton, Rice also called Palace’s Marc Guehi ‘intelligent’ in the clip too.

And following Guehi’s accomplished display against Serbia on Sunday, he should definitely be on Arsenal’s radar as well.

Guehi demonstrated his versatility playing as a left-sided centre-back alongside John Stones, making him the perfect addition to Mikel Arteta’s back line.

The Palace man would provide strong competition for both Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, one of few players who could realistically aim to disrupt the duo.

It’s an important summer for Arsenal, who will be following Euro 2024 closely.

And given Arsenal’s Premier League fixture list for 2024/25 season has just been released in full, the club will be planning for their first date with Wolverhampton Wanderers already.
