Report: Club want at least £65m to sell 'exceptional' Chelsea target this summer

Chelsea would have to cough up at least £65m if they want to sign one of their transfer targets this summer.

Chelsea have been no strangers to splashing the cash since the change of ownership two years ago, and it sounds like they’ll have to do just that to land one particular target.

Chelsea target priced at £65m

The Telegraph has claimed that Crystal Palace hope to keep Marc Guehi this summer, but should the player want to leave after discussions they won’t entertain bids of less than £65m.

It is understood that Palace are preparing to hold contract talks with their 23-year-old defender when he’s back from representing England at Euro 2024, but if they’re unsuccessful they’ll make interested buyers start the bidding at £65m.

This comes after Football.London reported that Chelsea do have Guehi on their transfer radar this summer.

The English centre-back previously played in the Chelsea academy before they sold him to Palace for £18m (The Guardian) in 2021.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have a sell-on clause on Guehi and also a matching option on any transfer.

Should Blues push for Marc Guehi?

There’s no doubt that Guehi is an established Premier League defender, who’s been consistent for the last three years in Palace colours. His stock will only rise with his performances at Euro 2024 with England, too.

The ball-playing centre back is fast, strong and comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Speaking via BBC Radio 5 Live on Sunday, Joe Hart described Guehi as “exceptional” after his performance in England’s 1-0 victory over Serbia.

However, The Chelsea Chronicle doesn’t think a new central defender should be a priority in this summer window.

While we would be happy with Guehi re-signing for the Blues, there’s a long list of centre halves already at the club that deserves a shot next season under Enzo Maresca.
